I was watching this and honestly it made me choke up a little bit. Perez here seems to have completely sacrificed his regular family life to continue his international boxing career... What fighters can you think of that made similar commitments or sacrifices? Any good stories?

Story goes that his wife begged him to pack in boxing and when he refused she took her own life. Bobby carried on and even fought in his next scheduled bout which was only a couple od days away if not the following night.

Valerie Chacon was tormented by the idea that it was she who introduced Bobby to boxing in the first place. Schoolboy was now 30 years old, could do nothing else, and his boxing obituary had been written after he gassed in the first Boza Edwards classic. I watched it, was rooting for Chacon, but there was no way he was coming back from a defeat like that. Off of her death, with a young family to raise and support, he made one of the most stunning career reversals of fortune ever achieved to become a champion again. (Chacon-Boza Edwards I needs to be on youtube so younger fans can realize what he successfully came back from.)

Jose Napoles left his wife and family in Cuba ,and went to Mexico.
