I totally disagree with the premise of this post. This was a case where tactical adaptability and genius won the day against all odds. Goerge and his handlers thought it was xmas when Ali laid on the ropes. This was the perfect case scenario for Foreman, at the time it was thought to be impossible for one to lay back in this fashion and come out standing. let alone standing over a fallen Foreman. Almost everyone on planet earth excepting Ali thought this tactic was suicidal. The commentators can be plainy heard voicing this, and Dundee to was reportedly distressed. Ali knew better than the lot of them, and seemingly woeful tactic was slowly digested by those in disagreeance as a winning one. This was a fight where the chosen tactics would have been seen as terrible without the benefit of hindsight. During the early stages of the fight it was believed Ali himself was fighting the wrong fight, not Foreman. Ali is possibly the only guy in history who could have pulled off this strategic coup. Foreman was never beating an inspired Ali that night, no matter what he tried.
Even though he never would have won no matter what type of tactic he chose to use, but Arturo Gatti listening to Buddy McGirt and trying to box with Floyd Mayweather. This fight alone shows how completely overrated McGirt is as a trainer.
When Hearns faced Hagler? He could have started boxing and moving around right away after the the sound of the first bell rather than that awesome first exchange.they both had,Maybe Hagler's charges would have slowed down a bit as time went on..But His legs may have been shot from the rumored massage.
