As current fighters go, I actually see a decent amount of Whitaker in the way Lomachenko fights. They both look like they're in the matrix at times as if things are going in super slow motion. I probably favor the way Loma puts his combinations together more than Pea but my god did Pernell have such impeccable defense. Some of the best footwork as well in the history of boxing.

Tevin Farmer and Rigondeaux both moulded their style after Whitaker.

Interesting post. Crawfords eyes & face reminds me of Tommy Hearns a bit. Hearns seemed like a good dude though.

You're a dummy! To my knowledge Pea never did anything bad outside the ring. Crawford had an issue with a car shop that would not release his car to him. I don't know the whole story, but bad people would have had way more issues by now. Granted, Crawford is a dude you don't want to get mad, but that doesn't make him a bad person.

Chavez at times. Just the hip movement to offense.

Can’t forget about Mark “Too Sharp” Johnson. He was like a more offensive version of Sweet Pea but more flat footed. But when he was totally on the defensive he really looked like Whitaker at times

The top three that come to mind: RJJ, PBF, and James Toney.

One heavyweight who showed he may have an ounce of Sweet Pea in him: Tyson Fury in his last fight when he made Tom Schwarz miss a slew of punches with incredible head and upper body movement.

That was a great showcase of dodging punches for a HW. Still think Fury is the best HW defensive fighter right now.

Can't believe i forgot about Mark Johnson, my fellow D.C native. I met him years ago when i was a kid. My uncle knew him. My uncle use to be Sugar Leonard top sparring partner back in the day. Mark was a great guy and could box his ass off!

That's so cool that you got to meet him! He seems like a genuinely nice guy. I think he trains fighters in D.C. now.
Always loved Too Sharp, one of my faves to watch.

Toney was one of the most stationary fighters of his time.
Pea would run marathons every night he stepped into the ring.

Ivan Calderón and anselmo moreno are good shouts... Diluted versions of sweet pea but very slick nonetheless
