Michael Nunn deserves a shout out when comparing to Whitaker. When Nunn was at his best he was just as slick IMO. Both also fought in the same era as well. Just a shame that he couldn't stay as consistent like Whitaker.

Most of the decent comparisons have already been made, but there's one missing which I'd throw in: Paul Spadafora. Looked like he was going to go on to become one hell of a fighter for a while, and with his southpaw stance, hand speed, quicksilver combinations and movement at the waist he definitely had a touch of Sweet Pea about him at his best. In fact I'm pretty sure a few writers and pundits at the time coined the 'White Whitaker' moniker for him around 1999.

You may be thinking of Toney in later Years...as a middleweight he would have been one of the best defensive Fighters we have ever seen....I am not the only one who thinks this....Whitaker was the Greatest no doubt but a Prime Toney was very very good.

Ivan Calderón for me: he was superb before his body and his reflexes started to betray him.

Well he reminded some people of Willie Pep. But Whitaker wasn’t quite that good but he was very skilled. He was one of the few that made defense fun to watch.

Lol Tyson Fury? I don't recall Whitaker running like a woman and throwing slapping arm punches.

Whitaker wasn't better than Willie Pep? Shouldn't you be in the Classic Section of this forum so you can type about how great every fight back from the 1930's was? Whitaker is far more skilled than Pep and fought in a era where the athletes were better and far more modernly skilled.

He had a LOT of close calls at MW. He was far more elusive at 168.
