Evander Holyfield. Moorer 1 was shady decision (10-10 round where Moorer was knocked down, even 10-9 score changes the verdict to 'draw' and Holy retains the title). Valuev (Old Holy was robbed) Ruiz 3 (Holy clearly won but got robbed) Lewis 2 was pretty close fight. On the other hand, Holy had few decisions that could've gone another way. Lewis 1 (clear loss) Ruiz 1 (very close, some think Ruiz won) Oquendo (again very close, many scored it differently)
Totally agree, I think he could have been a champion of the byrd style or even better. Changing the result of their bad defeats and adding the victories against etienne, dokiwari, izon, castillo, is a great record,i think he would be in the top 5 of the last few years
Wow, I don't think any of those are robberies, especially the Holmes fight. Holmes beat Norton soundly. That fight was not close.
Christian Mijares had a number of dubious decisions and nearly got robbed in both the Alexander Munoz fight and the Navarro fight, which were both inexplicably split decisions. Glen Johnson is an obvious answer.
Lennox Lewis vs. McCall I (stopped too soon) and Holyfield I (that was no draw). Jimmy Young vs. Ali & Norton. Pernell Whitaker vs. Ramariz I and Chavez. Andrew Golota vs. Bowe I & II, Grant. Robbed by his own demons & stupidity.
Please go to the fight of the week thread and make that argument. We are looking at that fight this week, and while some claim this to be so, no one has posted a card to show how he may have won yet
Maybe "robbed" is a little too strong for some of these, but these are fights I thought Eddie Cotton won: Johnny Persol 1 -- AP and UPI had Eddie winning Wayne Thornton 1 -- AP and UPI had Eddie winning Jose Torres -- many people thought Eddie won. In the 10th round, he was penalized for a low blow. If it was, it was his only one of the fight. He never received a warning, and Torres was not noticeably affected by the blow. Piero del Papa - Ring correspondent said Cotton won every round, but the fight was in Italy and del Papa got the duke. This was definitely a robbery. Roger Rouse 1 - Fight was in Montana. One judge had Rouse the winner by a point or two, another a draw, and the other Cotton by 7 points.
Lucas Matthysse deserves a mention. Got ripped off against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander before he became champ. I think those ‘losses’ inspired him to be more aggressive and a faster starter with his style.
