What it says on the tin. Here are some of my candidates: Liston Foreman Lewis W.Kltschko V Klitschko Ali Dempsey Any More? Joshua? Wilder? Holmes?
Maybe just fed up with people perceiving Marciano to an invincible comic book character and not a real life boxer.
No, I'm just having some fun. I don't anticipate anyone giving me a like here! ps Marciano may have lost two fights [Lastarza and Lowry ,]against men that wouldn't go 5 rounds with Lewis!
goodness no, I would say just Foreman, maybe Dempsey and Liston. stopping prime Marciano would require a Herculean effort. edit - oh hold on you mean tko as well - thats ok then a few others could tko him.
I would add Jefferies to the list, merely on basis he could eat punches and still prevail, not unlike Marciano. Whatever, if a time machine could be invented i would pay to see the fight between these 2, as i heard both were supposedly tough hombres, though i'm sure i could kick their butts in a fistfight...........um maybe not, i will arrange for my own taxi for after i fight these two
I wouldn't like to say really. As others have said, there is no precedent to look at, so how do we know what it would take?
Well you've seen lots of other boxing. This perspective also precludes you ever picking against any unbeaten fighter (Even when two meet); i'm sure that's not true.
two questions you have to ask yourself when evaluating Marciano. 1. Do you believe he was a great fighter. 2. How much above and beyond his physical limitations in the division could he go before he would stop being successful. I believe he was a great fighter. I also believe at his height and weight that once the division's talent began to grow considerably he'd struggle. Because he is great I do believe it possible that he could, not would, defeat several men larger than him that were champion.
Very interesting question. It is loaded with agenda but I will bite. Rocky was never stopped although he was down a few times. (Louis and Moore). The problem is he never looked hurt, or staggered and fuzzy. He just came back stronger after the flash Knockdowns. Louis and Moore have devastating power as well. Both from what I recall were from straight right hands. I never saw Rocky have trouble with the side punches like a left hook. He was very good at slipping them. What I would look for is HUGE power punchers that could throw excellent straight rights with the speed to catch rocky as he was charging in. These would have to be very accurate punchers as well. In all honesty Joe Louis is a great candidate but we saw how that went down. Great uppercuts may be able to catch Rocky as well, Lewis, Foreman and Liston could do it. But I think Rocky could get up from those My best bet would be on the Kilitchkos. Both Vitali and Wlad had superb right hands and in Wlads case great speed. Lewis also had the ability to catch Rocky at some point. Max Baer could be another solid candidate. I would have to add Tyson as his beautiful combos matched with fantastic speed in his prime could get through. Ali could make Rocky work hard and had a great right, stamina and speed. Rocky had a way of winning. I do not know if I would bet against him. Here are my top 5 to KO Rocky. 1. Wlad 2. Vitali 3 Ali 4 Tyson 5. Baer
It's an interesting springbaord actually. But there are probably a few heavyweights i'd pick to stop Toney; and you would too. What I mean by this is, Rocky Marciano and Lennox Lewis were boxing tomorrow, and you're interested in modern boxing, you'd probably have a feeling about which one of those would win. Marciano never being stopped would certainly factor into your thinking, but so, presumably, would Lewis's power and his enormous height, reach and weight advantage. Let's just say for a second that you deduced, taking all these things into consideration, that Lewis would lay Marciano out, then shake that off and go "no...because it's never happened before." Fantasy fights, for all that they're a little silly, are just asking what you would expect the outcome to be if you say down to watch it on HBO/Sky Box Office/however. In these circumstances Marcaino is nothing but a very well proven chin.
