So when George beat Moorer it made a great ending to a marketable story. The grandfather won a world title. He finally beat a world class opponent too. Everyone was happy for him. It was amazing and surreal. I remember that. But where do we go from here? He wasn’t going to fight Bowe, Lewis and those kinds of guys. If he was taken seriously it wasn’t by those guys. Or Holmes who wanted to fight him. It was like George finally did it. Let’s enjoy the moment. I don’t believe it was “woh! there’s a new era in boxing! Big George has done it and he’s the real deal!” In boxing circles everyone knew George was very limited and that he most likely would break up the titles. And he did. But we gave him a pass because he was so old. He paid his dues. He made history.
It’s exactly how it was. Somehow a generation who was not there have decided to reinvent the whole thing like George wasn’t a novelty. That he was this monster who was always taken so seriously. It wasn’t that he was taken seriously. There was surprise that he could compete. That he was still capable. Everyone in boxing knew there was only certain fights he was ever going to win.
To me rocky beats holmes. Larry did not hit harder than walcott so i don't how would keep rocky out of His (larry's)ass
The only chance Marciano has would be if Lewis brawls with him, which Lennox won't do. It's going to be jab, jab, jab, right hand or right uppercut. Basically a replay of Lewis-Botha.
Why do you always assume you can define what people are thinking and their motives for doing so, it is a display of astonishing arrogance!
