Mitch Green had the reach to stop Marciano in the later rounds of a 12 or 15 rounder, but probably couldn't get it done in a 10 round non-title bout. Green had the chin to psyche Marciano out too, and his street persona would probably win him the fight before the fight even starts. I mean, he'd CONFUSE Marciano with his confusing persona. Not to be underestimated.
The only interesting thing about Butterbean is he could not even properly knockout Johnny knoxvile. This content is protected
If LeDoux's hair-do is in fact a significant factor, I'd have to say Shirley Temple knocks out Marciano too. Which makes me wonder, since they were about the same age, why Rocky never fought her ?
I think folks underestimate the persona of Green. He really liked to snuggle up in a clinch and the barking sounds he made as his hair shook when he punched would strike fear into an intimidated nervous guy like Rocco.
Hair styles are underrated at heavyweight. They have actually always been a factor. I think perceptions became skewed regarding this when Lewis easily beat Tua and commented "you need more than a left hook, a hair style and hype to beat me". Lewis knew darn well that he was actually carrying one mighty hair arrangement in his own right, and a more seasoned and proven one than Tua possessed. Tua didn't quite grasp that either, and foolishly toned down or removed his hair in subsequent fights.
Shirley Temple born 1928. Actually 5 years younger than Marciano and in her fighting prime when Rocky was champion. And instead he was fighting bald guys older than himself. Then again, I have feeling Shirley was blacklisted at this time when the HUAC was investigating the claims that "The Good Ship Lollipop" was actually about a Bolshevik inspired mutiny that took place in the Black Sea around the time of the October Revolution, and little Shirley had known this all along. That may not seem 100% relevant to the thread, but it's important to understand some of the things that were going on at the time if we are to form a balanced account of why and how certain fights did not happen.
Yes Lewis learned the hard way. Having experimented with a moustache shaped patch on the back of his head (that totally confused Ruddock) Lennox later blamed the top knot he had against Mercer on not being able to swallow due to over tension on the knot. And that’s why Lewis went in for the granny bun and hairnet for the Holyfeild fights.
Knoxville would be a bit bigger than most of Marciano's opponents at 6'1 who were well under 200 pounds as Johnny was 170/180...fit right in at .. I know your just a troll on here, but do you think Knoxville can beat up Bart Gunn that monster wrestler?
That's how i recall it. I thought he had just beaten everyone's other favorite Super Honkey, the greatest fighter never to win a title (so I am told) Jerry Quarry.
I’m taken more seriously here than you are buddy. Knoxvile was an idiot. Not relevant to world championship boxing and neither was Butterbean. He got found out so many times. But losers still wanted to see the fat man win. So he became more marketable than he deserved to be. Not once did he beat a live fighter or a remotely relevant one. Hence not being able to knockout an unarmed man for a stunt in a sports shop.
.......want to take a poll on that? The fact YOU bring up Knoxville then referance he was an idiot..shows how dumb you are.... As someone who actually boxed before ( I know you haven't) I can tell anyone not one guy Marciano fought would have beat Butterbean who weighed under 200 pounds with maybe the exception of Walcott....Butterbean WOULD be a top guy in the 50's wheather you like it or not...lol
