Marciano's biceps were 14", I have no idea what his bones weighed.Thick legs don't make you a champ ask David Tua. Don't mind me ,I have drink taken, have a good evening! I am dog sitting, one of my 3 is terrified of fire works so I'm indoors alone tonight, whilst my partner celebrates with the kids.Happy New year To You!
-Like a slow, short-armed man against a bunch of fast, big, mobile, skilled fighters. He'd probably win some and lose some.
Who in gods name is claiming George is some monster Foreman "was this monster" in his second career? What a load of trash. Sorry Mac
Who were his biggest mobile opponents? 6'0/196lb/74-inch 38-yo Jersey Joe Walcott, who fought a fairly flat-footed fight? 6'0/185lb/73-inch Ezzard Charles?
In what actual fight was he facing a 6'3"220lbs class man with huge hitting power? In what actual fight was he facing a fast 6''3" 212lbs man who out reached him by 13 inches ,one who had a great jab and quick feet?
I would pick him over everybody that Holmes beat, in a single match up. The 80s was not an exceptionally strong era either.
The reason that he was not fighting opponents of this type, is because the technicians beat them all. The person whop finally beat Holmes, was more along the lines of a Marciano opponent, than the type of fighter that you are mentioning.
It's possible he loses to Wiliams, Smith,Witherspoon,Cooney,Mercer. If he had beat up Valdes,Baker, we might have more of a line on how he would fare against the big guys.
Which 6'3" 220lbs class bangers with huge power and heavy jabs did the technicians beat? Which fast 6'3"212lbs fast jabbing, quick footed men were around in the 50's? You want to make a case for Marciano because he was beaten by Tyson? GTFOOH!
It is possible, but it is more likely that he wouldn't. The irony is that some people here would give him more credit for beating these guys, than for defeating the men who beat them, simply because they are bigger fighters. That is the ridiculous turn the dialogue has taken on this issue. It would be just as much a question mark over a fighters record, if they had dominated an era of big power punching heavyweights, but there happened not to be a skilled technician around.
You have named them yourself. Valdez and Baker were probably as good as a lot of the contenders of the 80s. What I am saying, is that the person who eventually dethroned Holmes, was a former light heavyweight who was a skilled technician. It was the Ezzard Charles of the era, and not the Nino Valdez of the era, who finally turned the trick.
