You forget about 51’ Joe Louis. A genuine #1 contender in his own right whom is as close to the measurements you are demanding. He weighed within a pound or so of a prime George Foreman. It made no difference. You can scream about his age and that he was not the brown bomber anymore but among the 80 or so exhibitions before losing to Charles were knockouts over men as good or better than Holmes challengers. In fact Bivins, Brion, Savold and Agramante were too.
I agree with this, I wish we had of seen Rocky fight big young contenders Baker and Valdes although I think he would win anyway it would give us more of a gauge.
I used to think so too, but if we rolled Valdez and Baker together you wind up with a fighter no better than the 1951 joe Louis who Rocky did knock out. There is nothing on Baker or Valdes record to tell us he was better than 1951 joe Louis. Nothing. Louis even sparked Valdes in one round.
Maybe that's why he never fought them then? Certainly there didn't seem a public demand for them match ups. Going off-contemporary writing the only person Rocky was accused of ducking during his title reign was Moore who of course beat both Baker and Valdes .
And there we have it. But the Rockophobes need something to discredit him with. He was never filmed in colour. He never fought men who were around during color TV..he missed out on the PED explosion...
49 other fighters tried to stop Rocky and failed. I think we all agree hit hit and took a punch well above 185
