Wasn't it Tyson that once said: "They all have a plan until they get hit". Marciano kinda operated under a similar perspective regarding his opponents. (And by today's standards The Rock would be a cruiserweight, and Joe Louis won his title at that weight too).
Off the top of my head Foreman ten time out of ten Sonny Liston Max Baer Jack Dempsey Larry Holmes Lennox Lewis Mike Tyson David tua Wlad klitchko Evander holyfield Riddick bowe Tommy Morrison Shannon Briggs Deontay wilder Tyson fury Anthony joshua And james toney would all beat him consistantly
The fighters that would probably stop Marciano are the same sort of fighters that would probably stop Dempsey
Marciano was not down against Louis. Louis no longer had the power he had possessed in his prime, he was getting by with his jab and occasional left hook. Marciano was stunned against Moore. Source Rocky Marciano in an interview with Peter Wilson. Moore was not a devastating HEAVYWEIGHT puncher imo. Marciano was knocked down by a left hook from Walcott.
This is a real possibility,I give Dempsey more of a chance against the super heavies because of his quicker footwork ,handspeed, more resistant to cuts skin, and more evasive head movement.
Tua had a better chin than Marciano and also just about most everybody else, he proved it against Super Heavies with power.
It is hard to say who could do what, because we have so little to work with, but it is theoretically possible that somebody like Sam Langford could beat him.
Answering a question with another? I'm refuting a particular line of argument which you and the Col are promulgating. You are avoiding answering my questions.
Nor I, but that doesn't answer my question which was posed before that. Since Rahman has been mentioned here are two more questions concerning him. 1.Is it likely that Rahman hit as hard as Walcott and Moore? 2.Was the punch that Rahman ko'd Lewis with ,a tremendous right hand power shot capable of koing just about anyone who did not have a Chuvalo/McCall chin? And Shavers hit harder then all of them yet was less accomplished. Rahman didn’t KO Lewis because he was a Superman puncher. He could hit, no doubt about it. But I believe that he beat Lewis because he had a total read on his rhythm. He matched his calm pace, and then took over.
