Johnson was a very close friend of Nat Fleischer's. I think you will find its the white men that hated him!
With Calazghe the dislike I felt was very different to the other 3. I always sensed a kinda nasty arrogance that always hung over him and still does. Nothing wrong with a bit of arrogance in a fighter, but there was a kinda nasty vibe to his. Anyway, I'm probably jut seeing phantoms.
TBH I can't really put my finger on it, it's just something I don't like. Maybe his ego or vanity...dunno something I couldn't warm to and still can't.
I really don't think that Johnson hated white men. He grew up in a mixed working class neighborhood, and found it quite a culture shock when he first ran into segregation. He was a flawed character for sure, but he seems to have been civil to white people who were civil to him.
Oh boy lol Mayweather. Hated his cocky attitude and abuse of women. But damn can the guy box. Lennox Lewis I feel avoided a lot of guys till they were way out of their primes. ATG boxer who deserves respect but always felt he only fought guys when he knew he could win.
Deontay Wilder: Thug, says dumb ****, wants to kill someone in the ring, way too arrogant for my tastes, boxing form is ****. However I respect his power Floyd Mayweather: literally all of my gripes with deontay but he also beat his wife and evaded taxes. Thinks he's better than Robinson and Ali. Worst of all, his competition is overrated as hell, so what if he beat 20+ world champs? There's 7 different world champs per weight class these days, and we're in a weak era to begin with. Canelo and an older pacquaio don't compare to say, a prime LaMotta. Respect the defense. Mike Tyson (when he was a boxer I like him now): ******, Arrogant as hell, drug addict, the most overrated boxer ever, had no heart. Loved his style though, and how he addressed that being short has it's advantages. Jess Willard: now there are alot of boxers who didn't fight black fighters, some because of racism (Sullivan, Jeffries), and some who's hands are tied (Dempsey), but Willard goes the extra mile for me because I KNOW that Langford and Wills would have DESTROYED him, and that they were the most outrageous act of dodging. Not only were both great fighters, but Willard was a weak champion. They were robbed blind. (I don't think this about Dempsey because Dempsey would've beaten both of them, even Langford said Dempsey would beat Wills). I respect his fighting spirit though, to get up after the beating Dempsey gave him...
Carlos Monzon :It's really hard for me to root for a fighter who never moved up in weight and made smaller guys move up to fight him . If he had tried to fight at 175 I would have a lot more respect for him.
