Favouring Yuh over Chang is like favouring Chavez over Duran, except Yuh didn't even have the punch to hold him. Chang was just a more advanced, if not quite as active, version.

 

Chavez could have pushed Duran and possibly even beaten him at 135lbs. I agree, El. :good

 

I Have never heard of these indochina fighters, we really do have some Guru's on on this forum.

 

The comparison does hold a good deal of merit, I think. Chavez and Yuh were the more textbook fighters, the more consistently dedicated, more of the work-horse types (differences in punching power), whereas Duran and Chang were the more talented, the more advanced stylists, while similarly being the less dedicated/consistent performers (less so for Duran at Lightweight). All at their best you gotta go for the more talented guys, and it's pretty clear in these cases, even more so for the smaller ones.

Wouldn't be a blow-out either way, but I figure Yuh doesn't win more than 5 rounds against Chang over 15.

 

I always loved watching Humberto Gonzalez for obvious reasons. Exciting fighter and a huge puncher in his prime. Loved his fights with Sorjaturong and Carbajal.

 

Francisco Montiel managed to win 4-5 rounds against Chang in their first fight in '85 so I'd probably favour a quality operator like Yuh to do a bit better than that.

I'm not sure, El. I own a considerable amount of footage of both men and I've never been overly impressed with Chang and his supposed superior talent. He won fights by pressuring his opponents - throwing a lot of punches - but he was no stranger to getting hit himself. Yuh, although also known for a high output, was extremely cute on the inside. He threw varied combinations in a very deliberate manner, whereas Chang seemed to be flurrying and looking pretty sloppy in the process. I see no reason why Yuh wouldn't be giving as good as he would be getting. He isn't going to wilt under Chang's offense and he sure isn't going to get stopped either.

I would see it coming down to a war of attrition, and I can't for the life of me see Yuh losing that kind of fight. The man's conditioning was as good as I've ever seen in the sport. Chang, on the other hand, he was getting pretty tired in the championship rounds of his first fight with Montiel in '85. He looked extremely tired. That would have been a cakewalk for Yuh.

It's also worth noting that Yuh's struggles against Leo Gamez are painfully overstated. I had him winning both fights very comfortably.

 

But when Chang couldn't win on the inside he could fall into that jazzy, feint heavy boxing game he had. He was also a very educated spoiler.

I think he has the variety to try different things if it's not going his way.

 

Likewise, I think Yuh also has the variety to try different things if need be, hence why I think this would be such a great fight. Closely contested.
