Fighters touted that simply dissapeared

Peter Oboh. Went on a great run. Took the European title and was heading for a world title shot. Then just dissapeared. Said he couldn't get a fight. Finally got one after a few years lay-off then ran-off an hour before. Utterly bizarre.

Can anyone on here shed any light?

 

Says on BoxRec he fought 1 more fight after the Jon Thaxton fight. In 2011.

 

I got the impression it was "pushy father" syndrome with Barnes. I remember his Dad going on about survivalist stuff and he sounded like a total bellend. I don't think Barnes's heart was in it and seemed like his dad was just living vicariously through him.

He gassed badly against that journeyman and just didn't to be there. I remember his Dad shouting at him between rounds and asking if he wanted it. The lack of response and the look on Barnes's face said it all.

 

Yeah, Superbad didn't want to be in there.

The guy he lost to wasn't useless by any means, but still... it was a winnable contest and he just let the bloke beat him. That was my take on it at least.

 

George Collins. Built up a fantastic "padded" record, over 30 odd fights, straight wins but then when he stepped up he got found out. Lost to Gary Jacobs on points then got stopped by Laing and hung up his gloves. I don't even think he was that old when he quit because he turned pro very young if I recall correctly.

Juan Diaz's disappearance was pretty unexplained for a while, but I heard he went to university, studying law.

His career was pretty much finished by then anyway.

 

I saw loads of George Collins 'fights' and he looked good against the bums Frank W continued to feed him fight after fight.

 

Diaz wasn't ever going to recover from the loss to Marquez, no matter how slowly they rebuilt him afterwards.

He put on a brilliant performance on the night but just wasn't good enough ultimately.

Still, had a good career, becoming a triple belt holder at 135 and putting on a brave showing for the title.

Must be hard to come back from, knowing you've given it your all, been in a winning position and then being powerless to stop the opponent from turning the tables and finding a way to win.

 

Anyone know what happened to Matt Korobov? Remember seeing him a fair bit on undercards on big US fights a few years ago. Haven't heard about him in ages though.

James Branch was very hyped but got badly ko'd a few times

 

I've been very underwhelmed with Koborov. The amount of hype and exposure I was expecting a lot more. He has coasted through almost all of his fights and shows the flashes of why he was talked up but really hasn't shown his talents enough.
