Rocky Marciano turned pro in March of 1947 and retired in September of 1953. In a 8 and half year career the Brockton Blockbuster went 49-0 (43 knockouts). He won the title and defended it 6 times, stopping all but one of these opponents. While people debate just how great he was due to his level of competition (as they rightfully should do in my opinion). However he is always placed inside that magic top 10 of all time heavyweights. He is always regarded at a high level by guys who know there stuff. My question is is there a boxer who achieved more than Marciano in a career just as short? I know its hard to compare fighters to the Rock because of the varying opinions on him but of the top of my head I can't think of a more successful fighter who fought for less than a decade. And in the 1940/1950's he was not fighting particulary often compared to many of his fellow pro boxers, but he still achieved so much. Thoughts?

    james toney.
was a junior am back when he was 13 but dropped it looking towards a nfl career. going up to 186 pounds doing so, while also selling crack as support.....but less of that we should say. after getting into a fight it rekindled what he thought he could do as a pro. slimmed down went back into the ams and within 3 months won a novice golden gloves and 3 others titles. goes pro in 1988.......beats michael nun in 1991.

    3 and a half years

montell griffin is similar, coincidentally getting one of his best wins over toney only after 1 AND a half years of amateur competition. seeing off well installed light heavy olympic contender jeremy williams in the box-offs and john ruin.
going to the olympics, having his pro debut then beaten toney 3 years after relaxing gloves.

on a very minor level but still relevant and still improving. stuart hall was an amateur when he was 15. but grew up and wound up a nightclub tout in Ibiza and spanish coast tourism for drunk english tourists and residents. he blew up to over 200lbs. massively unhealthy, a pack a day smoker. until coming back to britain for a a few days. just put himself back in a gym to drop a few pounds,he trained for a few months, at age 27 and 78 pounds lighter, got a pro fight in 2008 at 28, and beats martin power X2, ian napa, gary davies, john donally. these 4 being the top british bantams. and is now ranked higher than the european champ and commonwealth champ. and is knocking at a world title tilt soon

pretty stunning stuff. puts me into a mood to get back in the gym...but cant be arced.

SNV became linear people's champion as soon as he turned pro and defended the title 53 times from 1993-2009. 53 world title fight defenses in 16 years is amazing. More than Chavez and Louis!
