Some would say he was a victim of his environment, but personally I came from that very same environment and circumstances , boxing gave me the confidence to stay on the straight and narrow, and develop the relationships that has lead to my career in law enforcement for almost 30yrs now. Simms luck ran out when bullets that missed vital area's from the previous times he was shot, found one . He died in Liberty City (Miami) on the streets in the early 90's. Before the age of 40.

I met Emile Griffith back around 2011, and he couldn't have been nicer. In fact, we were standing around talking boxing when suddenly two guys walked up and said loudly, "you're the one that killed that guy in the ring!" Emile looked hurt, but handled the situation like a real gentleman.
