Floyd Patterson had class as a human being, man and fighter. Your post is really good and truthful, to the point.
Livingstone Bramble was a VERY nice guy and was very funny. Very approachable as well. Hector Camacho was actually a very nice person from what I remember - he just seemed really hyper and his attention seemed to drift in and out. I met those two only once but they seemed very nice and I think Hector was just prone to doing crazy things like when I saw him in a boxing gym he was hitting the heavy bag and all of the sudden he starts doing like karate on the bag: kicking it making noises like Bruce Lee when he was striking the bag. Everybody in the gym just stopped and was watching him and he kept on doing his "karate".
Usyk, Winky Wright, Sugar Ray Leonard, Julian Jackson I also met Hasim Rahman in person and he was a class act
Yes he is. Had the pleasure of spending some time with him a couple weeks back, went to some bars etc; Nice guy who doesn’t really have a bad word to say about anyone. Will see him again next month.
I agree. Fighters in general are the nicest pro athletes you'll meet. They just tend to get a little amped up when a fight is at hand.
The book written by Thomas Hauser was a good one, it has many different people discussing their experiences with Ali. It shows the ugly side he had, as well as his good side and talks about how generous he was.
Gerry Cooney and Larry Holmes are worth noting. Gerry, after he got cleaned up, spent a lot of time and effort trying to start funds/organizations to help out former boxers who were down on their luck/struggling with life after boxing. And they both have done a ton of charity work over the years. I’ve seen both of them say that anytime they get asked to do a charity gig, the first thing they do is call the other and they can always count on each other to show up and help — because having both of them there makes it a bigger event and thus better for fund-raising. Good to see two guys who had a mega fight that was surrounded by some really disgusting racial prefight promotional angles (which neither of them wanted) have become such good friends and are able to use that friendship to help causes.
