Inspired by the poignant criticism of Joe Louis, that he had some hard fights, I thought it would be worth having a thread to celebrate all those fighters who didn't have any hard or close fights, in their careers, and fought a significant number of champions or top contenders.

    So lets list them all.

Holmes beat past or future champs Ali, Spinks, Berbeck, Mercer and Smith without much trouble.

Tyson easily beat former champs Berbeck, Thomas, Holmes, Tubbs and Spinks.

Lewis easily beat former champs Tyson, Briggs, Morrison, Bruno and Weaver

For those who don't understand, the question is to name a fighter who had five or more fights against ranked fighters, and also didn't have any hard fights. So no knock-downs, no contentious decisions, no need for rematches, etc.

Much as I don't like him as much as a lot of people Khaosai Galaxy had a lot of effortless defences till Castro.

    Tyson.

He beat seven current or former champions in his first thirty five fights and none of them were particularly close.

But the question was if they hadn't had any hard fights. Louis also beat 5 current or previous champions (and actual lineal ones) without much problems, but the purpose of the OP was to ask if there's anyone who's above the criticism that Louis gets for struggling now and then. That's at least how I understood it.

And, no, there isn't. All the guys mentioned have run into fighters that weren't great that gave them problems. Louis rather holds the distinction of not losing to someone who wasn't, hadn't been or wouldn't be lineal champion. Don't know how many who can say that. Certainly not facing the comp Louis did.

I'm fairly certain Buster Douglas was a pretty hard fight.

I think that the statistics buy Louis some mitigation for his sub par performances.

The man fought 31 opponents currently ranked by Ring Magazine.

That is more than anybody except Ali, and twice as many as any heavyweight champion except Ali and Holmes.
