Which fighters have suffered or dropped from the top partly due to drug dependency ruining them?

The obvious are the 80s HWs. There the Ray Leonard rumours(dont know much about this). What about Jonny Tapia, I dont know his story?

Tyson's troubles are documented but did recreational drugs ruin him? He has been caught with Cocaine, tested positive for Marrijuna, and coudl well have had drugs dependcy

........An addict for perhaps a different reason was of course Barney Ross. He was wounded as a U.S. marine on Guadalcanal, and got hooked on the painkillers they gave him in the hospital. Spent years afterward trying to kick it. He did eventually.

Bert Cooper got pretty bad drug wise.

Supposedly was awake for 48 hours or some such having a hotel room party with whores and coke right before he fought Foreman.

I reckon the effects of years of boxing would make most fighters dependent on some kind of drug (legal or otherwise). It is like professional wrestlers, they abuse their bodies so much in the ring over many years, their older years are filled with pain.

Well, I always thought Barney was on Oprium?

If you count alcohol and aspirin as drugs then the German jmw WBC champion Eckhard Dagge is your man. He was an alcoholic and aspirin-abuser throughout his career. Even during training camps he just vanished for a few days, then came back in the morning drunk and full of pills and beat the **** out of his sparring partners for the rest of his day. He also was a bit of a masochist since he always needed to get a beating before he really started fighting. LAter he would become trainer of Dariusz Machaelchewski but got fired when his habbits rubbed of on DM. He dies in the late 90s because of cancer.
