Amir Khan, ever since the Prescott loss he's improved significantly. It was a real wake up call for him.
Marquez after his "loss" to Pacquiao because it was he who got the big money fight against Mayweather, not Manny.
martinez vs williams I vitali vs Lewis Marquez vs Pac Lara vs williams mathysse vs (last 2 fights) morales vs maidana
Tony Tucker was pretty well written off against Mike Tyson in the Unification battle, but showed more guts than anyone imagined.... He was pretty much accepted after that fight as a Top Class heavyweight....... He didn't run like many thought.. He stood his ground.. In defeat his stock went up in most peoples estimation..
Lara who beat Paul "The Punished" Williams should blow up after whopping him and getting robbed. Karl Froch became more popular after his war with Kessler.
Seems like these losses benefited them different in they career there are much more but here are some Glen Johnson (Loss to Hopkins, made him improve as a boxer) Amir Khan (Loss to Prescott, made him imorove as a boxer) Wladmir Klistschko (Multiple losses early in career, made him improve as a boxer) Evander Holyfield (Loss to Bowe, made the public see a small heavyweight can be just as exciting as a power puncher) Antonio Tarver (Loss to RJJ made him more hungry and determined to beat RJJ and also lead to bigger money fights and movie role) Arturo Gatti (Loss to Ward, made him a household name which led to more exciting and bigger payday fights throughout his career)
Either I am misunderstanding this meaning of this thread, or a lot of other people are. I don't think getting a "wake-up call" is what we're talking about here. In that regard, I wouldn't count guys like Khan or Ortiz. Neither benefitted directly from the performances where they got smashed. You could literally name hundreds of guys that got better after losses. Tszyu comes to mind immediately as another. I think more like guys like Vitali, whose popularity soared to never-before heights because of the heart he showed as a huge underdog to a dominant champion. Razor Ruddock was suddenly on the scene after he stood toe-to-toe with Tyson for that 12-round war. But they were both losses. Arturo Gatti was already famous, but he made a ton of money in the rematches and subsequent fights after his loss to Ward.
