Who are the fighters who carried their durability up multiple divisions? James Toney is a brilliant example. How he took on guys like Jirov and Sam Peter is remarkable. Hard to think of a better example.
Actually I would argue that Toney became * more * durable after he moved out of 160 and the lower divisions. Could be that cutting weight affected him.
Guillermo Jones seemed to have an iron chin at Cruiserweight, after first challenging for a world title at 154 and moving through the weights very quickly as well. Guys like Manny Pacquiao and Oscar De La Hoya became more durable as They went up in weight, up to certain point anyway - and didn't have to drain themselves as much. Thinking about it, I don't think it's that rare? Seems like most naturally durable fighters can ususally take shots from bigger man reasonably well.
Toney was a former football player at I think 210-220lbs… JT was basically always a cruiser weight sized guy I don’t find what he did anymore impressive then say Holyfield? for my 0.2$ in terms of his chin that is, maybe he’s closer to a big LHW IDK.
A natural 210-220 lbs fighter cannot cut to 160 and fight like that, Toney was just comfortable as a fat-ass imo.
I didn’t say he was a natural 210-220lbs fighter I said he was a cruiser (190lbs) / LHW sized guy… in the same post, it’d be crazy to suggest Toney is the same size as Mike Tyson lol. This content is protected
Thats a bit more fair but I still dont see it, natural 190 is guys like Gvozdyk, Yarde, hell Jirov too and they didnt look the same size.
Duran took punches from Jorge Castro, who's a former world champ known for knocking out one of his opponents in round 9 after severely being behind in the cards. It's on super middleweight, far from lightweight,he also previously endured Iran Barkley's brutal body blows and lethal left hook.
