Mm- Hard one. For every example of a fighter being good at hunting a slick fighter down that same fighter usually has lost to either the same or a different fighter of the same cloth. It’s a bit of a mixed bag.
Carlos Monzon, he usually cut off the ring on movers,, remember the title defense against Tony Licata on June 30 1975 in Madison Square Garden, TKO 10.
It's a myth that Conn danced his way through Louis defense. Conn fought most of the fight on the inside.
yes conn threw a leaping lead hook to get in ,roughed louis up in the clinch and circled out, trying to box from the outside he got all his jabs parried(you can see that bad strategy in round 1) this dummy swag tried to dunk and didnt even touch the rim!
Kostya Tszyu faced some pure boxers, who moved a lot. He koed Sharmba Mitchell and Zab Judah both speedy guys with flaws.
Movement was probably the way to go against Langford. It was how Gunboat Smith and Sam McVey beat him.
The only quality movers I can think of Mayweather fighting were Judah and Mitchell. Judah had some early success but didn't move consistently and wasn't adaptable. I just watched the Mitchell bout after not seeing it for a long time and although Mitchell was one of the few stoppages Mayweather got at welterweight, Mitchell was relatively effective at making Mayweather miss. That stats, for what they are worth, bare that out. In his bouts at welterweight, Mayweather landed 57% of his total shots against Berto, 54/51% against Maidana (1 and 2), 46% against Alvarez, 41% against Guerrero, 44% against Mosley, 59% against Marquez, 39% against Hatton, 43% against Baldomir, and even 47% against Judah. However, Mayweather only connected on 38% of his punches on Mitchell. The only guys who allowed Mayweather lower connect percentages were Pacquiao (38%) and Ortiz (35%). Mitchell was well past his best against Mayweather, but his herky-jerky style, combined with his quickness, helped him limit an aggressive Mayweather's offense largely to right hands, even though Mayweather came out with a lot of offensive versatility.
Mayweather showed his greatness in a lot of fights by adapting midfight against guys he didn't really have physical advantages over. Mitchell never pushed him like that. I would say Pacquiao had the fastest feet of any Mayweather opponent even though he wasn't a pure mover.
