Fighters Who Didn't Handle Their 1st Defeat Well

Kelly Pavlik is an obvious one. He didn't take a particularily bad beating physically, but fell apart after that fight, I guess his carefully nurtured career had given him a false confidence in himself and when he found out he wasn't really a "special" fighter, just a good one who'd have to work at winning, he was ruined. He fought lethargically from that point on even against hand picked target practice opponants, and then there's all the out of ring drinking and fighting stuff.

 

Any revisionist history, especially courtesy of HBO documentaries, needs to go.

Oh, to add to the Hatton mention, I also remember Ricky saying he couldn't stop crying after losing to Mayweather and that "all is missing is a pair of tits".

 

Wow, didn't realise Hatton took the Mayweather loss that badly. But then again, it was an entirely new experience for him, not just getting KO'ed, but also losing a professional fight. I guess after the huge build up to the fight, he felt he had let his fans down (though he didn't at all, he made a valiant effort). Though he definitely took the Pacquiao loss badly. Guess getting KO'ed in the 2nd round will do that to you.

Hatton said he went itno depression after losing to Mayweather. Then he went into rehab after he lost to Paquiao.
