Fighters Who Fell Out With Their Trainer?

    I just came across the old countdown to the 1st fight between Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito. It brought back memories of the bizarre relationship Miguel had with his trainer/uncle Evangelista.

    Things were extremely strained between the pair, and the HBO countdown crew showed that Evangelista and Miguel almost never spoke at the gym or anywhere else. It was a strange sight, watching Miguel pound the heavy bag by himself, while Evangelista roamed the gym with resting ***** face.

    Obviously the Tyson/Kevin Rooney relationship has some really hard feelings between the two as well.

    Any other examples? I'm kind of curious.

    Naseem Hamed and Brendan Ingle. It got so bad that between rounds while Ingle was shouting instructions Hamed was spitefully looking away pretending not to listen

    Sugar Ray Leonard and Angelo Dundee. Leonard fired him, I think over money.

    Diego Corrales was trained by his stepfather Ray Woods. I think he didn’t talk to him for a long time after Ray (correctly) stopped the Floyd fight.

    Matthew Saad Muhammad fired the man who started him out in boxing - Nick Belfiore. But at least Rittaco got to see him win a title and make his first defense before being kicked to the curb.

    Roger Mayweather split from Jesse Reid a few times before Reid finally walked away after the second JC Chavez fight

    Carl Frampton and Shane McGuigan. Barry was his manager and they fell out badly.

    Jerry Quarry fell out with Johnny Flores due to Jack Quarry’s interference. Jack knew Jack about the business before Gil Clancy came into the picture.

    BHOP and Bouie Fisher. Fisher took Hopkins from a 0-1 ex con to one of the greatest middleweights ever. BHOP fired him for Nazam Richardson and Bouie sued him for non payment after the Oscar fight. I do believe BHOP was with him on his deathbed so they somewhat reconnected.

    Bobby chacon had a fractious relationship with Joe ponce. Ponce was a taskmaster and Bobby was a partier.

    Patterson and D'Amato. Dempsey and Kearns (Kearns managed Dempsey but also trained him early on. Actually Dempsey went through quite a few manager/trainer types), Marciano and Weill (Rocky's manager) although Rocky had to quit boxing to get rid of him.

    Roy Jones Jnr and Roy Snr’s relationship as father and trainer is the embodiment of toxic and dysfunctional.

    I’m not sure if Oscar De Lá Hoya actually fell out with his myriad of trainers but the guy went through them like used tissues.
