Ralph "Tiger" Jones lost by UD to most of the top Middies in the 50's.

But he beat a 1955 Sugar Ray Robinson and was not given a shot at the title.

    Great and entertaining "opponent".

i would like to add sanderline williams,

known im sure for his most famous fight with james toney the first time where he held him to a draw.

also fought nigel benn and iran barkley and dropped split decisions to both.

aside from that, the list goes on of the who's who in sanderline williams record:

dwight davidson, lindell holmes(only fighter that stopped him), merqui sosa, don lee, reggie johnson, gerald mccellan, herold graham, joe lipsey and frank tate.

These were great fighters, don't count on this subject.

Sanderline Williams is the quintessential example. Guy had all the skills but other aspects were not there.

juan lazcano is becoming that fighter now,

he fought very competitive fights with ricky hatton, jose luis castillo and vivian harris. the hatton fights scores where lopsided... but the fight was in manchester and lazcano hurt hatton at least twice (after lazcano hurt hatton, the ref intervined to tie hatton's shoe lace??) just a very tough lanky fighter who has a great uppercut, great chin and is willing to mix it up when you'd rather not.

Liverpool's Harry Scott fought plenty of the top middles of the 60's and 70's giving everyone a fight and even held a win over Rubin Carter.

Grim was more annoying than offensive. I'm sure it pissed alot of men off that they couldnt keep him down, but from what I gather, Grim couldnt fight for ****.

George 'Scrap Iron' Johnson comes to mind.

    youseff Al Haimedi

a journyman from Great Britian fought John Murry (a highly regarded prospect) and in my eyes beat him also gives any fighter a tough fight and often debatable decisions. goes by the name of the spoiler but is a classy operater

and my fave journyman ever also owns an ice cream van

You can add Holley Mims to this list, both he and Tiger were cut from the same cloth in that while they could be beat, you were never going to have an easy time doing so against either man. Mims unfortunately was controlled by folks in Chicago and had to fight with the cuffs on often like he did against Rubin Carter namely and to fight on short notice in the other guys hometown far too often as well. Very good fighter was that man, much better than his record indicates.
