A flash knockdown is specifically when the fighter gets knocked down by a single punch at a point in which the fighter was not hurt. Usually they come from a poor stance and or they did not see it coming.

I can't believe it took 8 posts for Floyd Patterson to get as much as an honourable mention.

Joe Louis was decked many times during his career, but always got back up to win the fight. (Except for the Schmeling and Marciano fights)

Flash knockdown: Toney KD'd by Jones, Tarver KD'd by Hopkins

ie, a knockdown in name only where the "floored" fighter has to take a count by the rules but was not actually "knocked down"

That's my perception of it anyway. I don't go along with those who say a flash knockdown is just a knockdown where the floored fighter is not hurt and gets up quickly because

a - you don't know how hurt someone might be really if the impact of the punch literally knocks them down onto their back

    and

b - fighters can sometimes get up very quickly even if they are very badly hurt
(Meldrick Taylor was up at 4 v Chavez, I'm sure Judah bounced back up v Tszyu and Darchinyan bounced back up v Donaire but both were gone)

I do; he got up a lot but he shouldn't even be mentioned period. It took Liston one knockdown to keep Floyd down in the first fight. He got up a lot and had a lot of heart but he was knocked out numerous times.

Good points...but most of the time when the guy gets back up like nothing it is because he did not get hurt though....

Oscar De La Hoya went down about three times in his first 20 fights

Calzaghe was only decked 4 times in his career..I don't think that's very much.
