Norton was not superior with Ali. 3 close fight with Ali but Ali is not in prime peak for the fights as Norton. yes Ali trouble with Norton more than Foreman has with Norton but this is just boxing. To "have his be number' I think is meant will always win against & clear win also
Vernon Forrest just superior taller better boxer to Shane Mosley at bigger weight class. More better example would say Mayorga & Forest but I question the concept all over to be honest opinion. When win 2 time especially with prime rival it disprove'inferiority"
His age ? he was thirty one, in the best shape of the second half of his career , went on to beat Frazier twice, Foreman, and many others after the win .. Norton won five of the last six rounds without question ... it was a razor thin decision .. facts are facts man ..
The pre-exile Ali was a different match up .. Norton would always be tough but the pre-exile Ali without question would have been a considerably more difficult matchup due to the movement ..
Great call .. Dempsey would go on to stay he wanted Meehan in a long distance bout where he'd wear him down and get him.
You ca make an argument for Oscasio over Jimmy Young as he defeated him back to back and eliminated Young as a top title contender .. give Young an excuse for the first fight but he trained for the second and still lost ..
i thought he lost both amatuer fights and both pro fights. I never been swayed by the announcers in my life.
31 isn't exactly young for a boxer. Especially at that age. Having a 3 year exile can't help your endurance much either I imagine. Also Norton winning "five of the last six rounds" isn't without question because many including myself question it.
Yes, most thought Dempsey would've beaten Meehan given more than just 4 rounds. The last fight was a benefit, all proceeds to the war campaign, so it was fought in San Fran, Meehan's home ground where he was most popular to draw in the most. $$$ - but it also meant Dempsey was confined to another 4 rounder as per legislation. There was the work (non combat, stay at home contribution to the war effort) or literal fight edict, so JD was really working the former in contributions to the war effort which staved off his having to fight in the war. Still, JD was in the midst of rolling everyone else in 1-2 rounds but Fat Boy Willie always hung tough while dishing some back. Quite the character he was. As Frazier was to Ali, Willie was to JD, at least over 4 rounds. LOL.
Absolutely HG. For mine Norton isn't beating pre exile Ali anytime from Liston to exile. 10-5 for me.
Split decision. 7-5, 6-5, 5-6. Eddie Futch himself stated Norton gave away quite a few early rounds because he tried to bob and weave against Ali just like Frazier did, instead of sticking to his game plan. The moment he got his stuff together, he began turning the fight around.
