Tyson fury was brutally knocked down in the 12th round of his heavyweight contest with Deontay Wilder, the most feared puncher of his generation. Many commentators at the time felt the fight should have been waved off immediately and gum shield removed but the referee gave Fury the benefit of the doubt and administered a count. Fury was motionless until the 8 and then rose from the dead miraculously to not only finish the fight but dominate his opponent until the final bell. He earned himself a draw for his efforts although many people believe despite two knockdowns he did enough to win the fight. In the final moments of round number 8 underneath the Tokyo dome in Japan, Mike Tyson finally found his range with a trademark uppercut on Buster Douglas which sent him crashing to the canvas chin first. With a generous count from the referee Douglas got up on 9 and was saved from further punishment as the bell indicated the end of the round. Douglas recovered and came out in the 9th with brutal combination after combination and eventually went on to become the first man to beat Mike Tyson in a monumental upset in the 10th. Name some other examples of boxers recovering from a devastating knockdown to go on and win the fight.
Archie Moore vs Yvon Durelle. Floored hard 3 times. And he did it in the first round; would very likely be stopped today. Then Archie came back with a late KO. Incredible!
diego corralles, had been knocked down twice in the 11th round by castillo. corner was ready to throw in the towel after he got up the seond time. came back and knocked out castillo!
Well people on here have disagreed with me on this, but I always thought Andre Ward took a bad knockdown against Kovalev. I will admit, I only watched the fight live, never watched the replay, but i remember thinking at the time that Ward was in all kinds of trouble , and if Sergey had put his foot on the gas he could have pulled out the stoppage. I know Holmes was put down hard as well. I believe it was Renaldo Snipes that did it, but might be confusing him with Shavers. Riddick Bowe was down hard against Holyfield and also Andrew Golota, and he came back in both those fights. And who could forget Nigel Benn getting put down in round 1 against Gerald McLellan....getting put through the ropes no less.
bowe did NOT come back against golota. even with out the nut shots, bowe was getting his ass beat. golota ruined him.
Ron Lyle vs George Foreman was another one with Foreman down twice in the 4th to go on and score a KO in the 5th.
It was Snipes that put Holmes down and I believe Holmes was in worse trouble against Renaldo Snipes than he was against an already exhausted Shavers.
Froch suffered a heavy knockdown in round 1 vs Groves then went on to win, albeit controversially. In saying that, Froch was so well conditioned with incredible recovery that I think it was almost impossible for him to be KO'd or stopped. I guess the Jermain Taylor fight was similar
I'm.not saying golota didnt ruin, but Bowe was down early pretty bad and came back to drop Golota hard around the 5th round and cut him up. Golota resorted to his genital punched because he was getting frustrated that he couldnt put Bowe away. And yes, that fight was scored as a W for Big Daddy
Pavlik was knocked down and on the verge of losing in the 2nd round of the first Taylor fight. Luckily, the referee was Smogger, who has never been known for early stoppages. Pavlik ended up winning the middleweight title by a 7th rd KO.
Tony Bellew v Ovil McKenzie 1. How Bellew got straight back up from both knockdowns, especially the second iirc was brutal.
