Mike Tyson is underrated The youngest man to ever win the titles, was undisputed champ at 21 years of age. Had good wins over quality opposition, proved to be capable of dealing with all styles (beat punchers, boxers, ...). Yet some people claim he was always losing when his opponents didn't back down. :-( Manny Pacquiao is overrated He has beaten great names, but many of them were too weight-drained to be considered serious threats or great wins. Wladimir Klitschko is overrated Many say he improved under Steward's guidance. I disagree. He did get more effective at protecting his chin at the expense of entertainmen value and, more importantly, by violating the rules constantly. Holding is not a skill, nor an art, it is an active breaking of the rules of boxing. David Haye is underrated People criticize his fans and leve of opposition. Not all his fans are British, I am German and love David Haye. And his opponents were more than decent choices. Especially his win over Ruiz is severely underrated (the second man to ever stop Ruiz), he beat him to a bloody pulp.
I disagree with all over your choices and would even go as far to say I'd pick the opposite of all your choices (with the exception of Pac). I find your picks completely baffling. David Haye underrated? :nut
That's from another thread. The context is relevant. I was talking about the Klitschkos and their history. They have been in Germany since 1996 so I know more about them than most international fans who simply did not have access to all the reports, interviews, footage on/with them.
Since when is tyson underated he is a household name and thats big for a boxer. An iv hardly ever herd anyonedump on hes career
tyson i dont believe is underrated many think he would have beaten any heavyweight on his best night. vlad i think is overrated but fans in general want a good heavy and their is no one else really their now. maybe ike would have ruled if not in prison but who knows pac i think is overrated i agree. the fights he has been put top of the league for are fights you wouldnt really bet against him in hatton was exposed before him, dela hoya drained, cotto drained, clottey not proper class just massive margarito beat down by sugar shane. he wasnt being touted as great or p4p number 1 before these fights and morales, marquez and mab fight 1 all were fights you could see him losing. now he fights shane and should really hammer him as we have seen shane doesnt have much left and isnt sugar no more he is more like sweetex. manny would not have fought shane or oscar at 147 in their prime.
Mike Tyson - Overrated. Manny Pacquiao - Underrated. Wlad Klitschko - Undderated. David Haye - Overrated by brits only.
haye is hyped more in england and seen as the great british hope at cruiser he was underrated alot of people at england thought big mac could beat him at cruiser before they got rudely awoken and at heavy now he is being overrated in my opinion he has slowed down and plods around the ring more now than when he threw more combos at cruiserweight.
I think Tyson of '91 is underrated as he had good wins over Ruddock in wars that really showed his heart. Pacquiao is rated just right imo. He's been fighting at the top level for about 10+ years now beating mostly solid names. The only people that overrate him are his nuthuggers. Pacquiao the GOAT:rofl really I love him but that's just idiotic to believe that. Wladimir may be inbetween. Like Pacquiao, his nuthuggers are ridiculous but that goes for any fighter. He lacks the big names but we can't ignore that he has been dominating his division for almost several years now and is clearly the best heavyweight now. As far as Haye, he is a champ of a legit belt but lacks names even more than Wlad does. He NEEDS to beat a Klitschko to really be a bigger name and he has a chance to do it. He is a legit champ and will fight a Klitschko(finally! about time!) so I'll give him that. It's best to rank guys' greatness for good once they have retired permanently. Seeing what Tyson did and comparing it to the heavy division now makes me appreciate him more. Seeing Tszyu's fights and looking at how amateurish the so-called "big names" in the 140 division now look makes me appreciate Tszyu more. Many more examples like this.
Vitali is over rated hasnt fought fantasic opposition - his claim to fame is getting beat by Lewis. His best wins are probably Sam Peter (limited slugger) and maybe Corrie Sanders. I think hes a decent fighter and his physical attribues make him a match for anyone - but who has he beat! People moan about Calzaghes list of victims but at least he had the likes of Eubank, Kessler, Bhop on it. Vitali doesnt have one live win - he has a number of B list victims and no else not one stand out win over elite competition
I wonder what would happen if Wladimir does beat Haye? People would probably say "he should've stayed at crusier weight anyways" or "Haye was a bum"lol. Nonetheless it will be a good win against a young and hungry prime fighter who's talented. The OP said holding is breaking the rules, it's not. It's excessive holding that's a violation but holding done right is pretty effective as in Whitaker-DLH, Margarito-Mosley, Lyle-Young II, and to some extent Hopkins-Calzaghe.
In his prime early 20's Tyson was awesome. Manny Pac is probably the best fighter of all time based on what he has achieved so far. David Haye is a lucky champion, beating Mormeck, Enzo Mac, Valuev, Ruiz..... these are second\third tier at best. For a cocky guy who tried to bully Carl Thompson and then fall apart to think he has a chance against either Klitschko is a farce. I think a couple of the British and European middleweights etc are really poor, a few have a number of belts, European, Interim world etc.
