Lloyd Honeyghan was thrashed by Mark Breland at home I believe. Also, Michael Nunn was KO'd in a baseball stadium in Davenport, Iowa...his hometown...by James Toney.
Good pick. What an awful night for boxing. Should have been a great moment for Marvin but a load of drunk idiots ruined it.
Unknown Alfredo Layne (Panama) who travelled to Puerto Rico to shockingly destroy the great Wilfredo Gomez in front of his home people. He would lose his title in his first defense against Brian Mitchell and only win 1 of his next 8 fights.
Edwin Rosario vs Jose Luis Ramirez II. Terrific fight (FOTY 1984) between unbeaten Puerto Rican puncher who was the heir apparent to Duran´s throne against Mexican puncher who he had unimpressively beaten on points for he vacant crown. Rosario came out all guns blazing to drop the iron-chinned Mexican twice in the first two rounds. The crowd were deafening. No idea how Ramirez survived but survive he did to hurt Rosario in the third. The fourth was even when Edwin´s legs buckled and he was pummelled until left draped on the ropes facing the wrong way. The crowd were silent in complete shock.
Ron Stander getting abused by Joe Frazier for 5 rounds in Omaha comes to mind. Also, Donny Lalonde stopping Leslie Stewart in Trinidad.
Half of Oleksander Usyk's record consists of him handing out Ls on the other guy's patch. Micheal Katsidis silencing Upton Park in less than 9 minutes against Kev Mitchell was memorable.
Juan Manuel Lopez losing to Orlando Salido TWICE in Puerto Rico, both times by stoppage. Jose Napoles getting stopped by John H Stracy in front of his hometown crowd of Mexico, which led him to retirement.
Williams, it might be me just being picky, but I wouldn't have considered this on home soil. It may have taken place in Curry's country but the US is pretty vast. Curry was from Fort Worth, Texas and this took place in New Jersey. Not sure if this is what the OP meant.
