How many fighters can you remember that had great careers then lost a vital fight then just never came back.... Naseem Hamed, Leroy Jones, Mike Spinks.... A few decent champs only lost one fight .. they fought again and i think we forget they only lost one fight.. Bowe only ever lost a single fight , to Holyfield... British heavyweight Gary Mason only lost once too.. To Lennox Lewis.. he did resurface , but his desire wasn't there any more.. Gene Tunney never lost as a heavyweight.. he only lost a single fight. To Harry Greb........ I sometimes think too much emphasis is put on fighters being unbeaten nowadays.. I look back and some men were so proud that a loss , just broke thier heart..... its sad really because they had a lot to give...
Yeah, but he looked nothing like his old self. Barrera took much out of him... He probably made enough money from that bout to stop fighting
Yes , Naseem did appear once again, but gave up after one fight.. Zed Mavrovic never returned after fighting competetively against Lennox at the Mohegan sun in Uncassville Conn... I was there , he did great.. Zieljko became very Ill and almost lost his life i heard .. he had a bad disease and took years to recover.. i saw him recently in Germany , he is doing great now...
Zeljko didn't have much choice... EDIT: Yes, see above. He's doing big business in the organic food market now. I do sometimes wonder what he could've done in the division. Not an awesome boxer, but his durability was pretty startling.
Man he ate so much leather from Lewis, but he gave me the impression he would never go down, no matter how many more he would eat
Yes, that is a very sad story though... James died very shortly after the hearns fight in a horrific motorcycle accident.. Tommy went to his graveside with the NABF belt he won from him.. he laid it down and said to his wife .. James held this longer than me, Its belongs with him...
Gerry Cooney after his loss to Holmes. Sure he fought again but was obviously still retired when he stepped back in the ring.
