Floyd Mayweather - a decent puncher at 130-140, Floyd has 12-0 (only 2 KOs, less than 20%) at 147-154 divisions. 1 of them was cheap-shot KO.

Manny Pacquiao - murderous puncher in lower weight classes, now Manny fails to stop anyone since Cotto, which was 4+ years ago. No wonder here as he started at 105 I believe.

Bob Foster - ATG puncher at LHW, couldn't compete at HW and didn't have the power to hurt big guys.

Bernard Hopkins - good puncher at MW, now all his fights last 12 rds at LHW.

    Any more examples?

Nigel Benn was a destroyer at middleweight but when he moved up to super middleweight his power didnt seem the same, went the distance a few times and took longer to get guys out of there..

Well, Floyd has 3 TKO's at 147-154, but that's a minor detail. Sort of like how Manny had scored 4 consecutive stoppages from 135-147 (Diaz-Oscar-Hatton-Cotto) before the Clottey fight began the KO drought. The jump from LHW to HW is the most power-sapping (opponent punch resistance increases greatly in that jump) of any divisional jump so Fosters' was to be expected. Hopkins has the legit excuse of jumping from MW to LHW, skipping 168 altogether. after the age of 40. Of course he won't be scoring any KO's with the way he fights...

Many will say Nonito Donaire, but I'm not so sure... Donaire's power seemed monstrous as he rose from 112-118, but then at 122 many say it seemed to regress. Although he doesn't finish them off at quite the same rate, he has still scored knockdowns against each of his last 7 opponents since moving up to 122 (he dropped each of Vazquez Jr, Mathebula, Nishioka, Arce, Rigondeaux, Darchinyan II, and Vetyeka). So, maybe he's the opposite of this thread, really...

Paul Williams once he left 147?

None of them lost their power. Their power just didn't work as well on naturally bigger guys who, for the most part, have naturally better punch resistance.

I have to disagree about Foster tho. He did have some ko wins at heavyweight, just not against the elite. He did manage to bust up Ali alittle, think Ali said he had a great jab.

Pacquiao had a few KOs early in his career, which seem to pick up consistanly after his second lost. As he moved up in weight, the punchers that KOd him by smaller men early in his career, were not KOing him by bigger men later in his career...:think. After the Cotto fight he tried to make the fight with Floyd, and that whole drug testing thing came about. Since that time Pac has not TKOd or KOd no one, and that chin that he had early in his career resurfaced. I don't think he lost his power, he lost the drug that enhanced his power.:yep

Adamek was a good puncher at LHW. At HW he was below average.

Most fighters lose some power, or do less damage as they face bigger opponents, when they move up in weight.
