Didnt former 154 champ David Reid get 6 figures for his pro debut? Lots of former Olympians got mucho bucks, even if they weren't terribly successful pros. Howard Davis, Mark Breland, Audley Harrison, etc. I think when you compare number of fights to purses made, these types of fighters really do clean up. It's all about marketability.
-The biggest part of Foreman's wealth was after his boxing career (grill, his show,...) -Holmes, even today does nothing for free. He once stated in an interview that Don King asked him to make a public appearence in one of his events. Larry: "what's in for me?" King: "C'mon champ, could you do me a favor?" Larry: "Do you a favor? How much money have you made out of me during my career?" And Larry turned away and King never called back
Tommy Hearns made enough money to buy a new Bentley every year until about 2 years agbviously,he's close to being broke now since he had to auction a lot of his things.the lack of foresight in boxing is depressing for some of these guys.
Lewis made a **** ton, as did Holyfield. Moorer made quite a stack from boxing, but he also made craploads out of being Tiger Wood's bodyguard, and running a protection company. as well as charging people a dollar for leaning on a counter.
Actually he didn't make as much as you'd expect, most of his fights where in places like leisure centres n small ice rinks.
