He was reportedly down against Ted Jamieson, and newspapers had him winning the fight. That was about the only fight he was floored in aside from a couple of his early fights.

    Check.

Soldier Jones dropped Harry late in round two on April 11, 1921. Greb knocked him out in the fourth after dropping the Soldier thrice in round three, then four more times in that last round before the finisher. This is possibly the definitive knockdown avenging match of Harry's career, and so far as I can determine, his one official victory on such an occasion.

Harry won a newspaper decision on November 11, 1923, after getting decked twice, again by Soldier Jones, in the opening round, then staging a sensational rally. Greb was seriously staggered, had no memory of the first six rounds, but from round three on, he produced a slaughtering comeback.

He also won a ten round NWS over Norfolk on August 29, 1921. The Kid scored a flash knockdown in round three, not hurting Greb, and Harry swept the last five rounds.

There is a photograph of Greb sitting on the canvas in one of his matches against Tunney, but I can't find any record at the moment of Gene producing an official knockdown in any of their five meetings. That image could just as well be the aftermath of a slip.

Greb was dropped in draws with Ted Jamieson (August 28, 1920) and Soldier Bartfield (July 16, 1918).

I've read that Harry sustained a total of around seven career knockdowns. Soldier Jones would account for three of those, Bartfield a fourth, Jamieson a fifth, Norfolk six, and the early knockout loss to Joe Chip, courtesy of a right hook (Noveber 29, 1913), would make for seven. Whether or not there was an eighth such episode might be answered by the story behind that aforementioned photograph with Tunney.

Lewis and Tyson were the first names I thought of.

Some may think Thomas Hearns... he was dropped twice by Barkley in their rematch at LHW... Barkley won by SD. He was dropped by and lost to Leonard, Hagler, and Barkley x2. However, Hearns got up to win twice (W12 James Kinchen and W12 Frankie Delgado).

Marty Marshall broke his jaw and went on to win by decision.

Tommy also sustained a questionable knockdown in the win over Benitez. (Hearns was clearly not hurt, and smiled at the referee's count upon getting up.)

Michael Spinks likewise had a dubious knockdown credited against him in the win over Qawi. Ditto for Hagler against Roldan. Nobody counts these however, and Thread Stealer has already cited Michael as such an example.

Never knew that Soldier Jones was such a thorn in Greb's side. :good

Must have been quite a puncher, or maybe he knew a way around Greb's defenses. His record has him winning 18 of his 20 wins by way of KO.

He also seriously hurt Greb in the third round of their first fight on November 28, 1919. But late in Harry's greatest and most legendary year, he recovered to knock out Jones in five, and advanced to 41-0-0 for 1919. (This appears to be the closest anybody came to dropping him in those 45 bouts.)

There are numerous reports of Greb getting staggered and barely keeping his feet, only to recover and come back with vengeance. Jones always paid the price for these achievements. A quick check of Harry's record indicates that Jones may have been the only opponent he knocked out more than once. (I'd need to examine it more closely to verify that.)

Considering herculean effort it takes to beat Mike Tyson, if you got him on the floor its probably because you hit him with everything but the kitchen sink.

Tyson had a granite chin so he not was the the type to suffer flash KD's.

Jim Jeffries never got off the floor to win.
    Sonny Liston,
    Lennox Lewis.

I can't find evidence that Chuvalo's great Canadian rival, Bob Cleroux, was ever floored. (Unlike George, he was never stopped either.) Juan LaPorte was never decked either. Pastrano was apparently only dropped by Torres.

Virgil Hill readily admitted immediately after their match that Bobby Czyz legitimately knocked him down with a stunner to the head that the referee blew the call on. As it was obviously a blown call to anybody viewing that match, Hill should probably be excluded from consideration.

The Tyson shout is valid. Look at Holmes geyying heavily banged to the floor by Shavers and getting up to win. Tyson has never done that.

    Eric Crumble

Khaokor Galaxy (I believe he was knocked out the only time he was down)

I believe Herol Graham was knocked out each time he was knocked down.

You're saying it like its a bad thing.....Incidentally Tyson would have taken that punch from Earnie without going down.

How the hell do you know that? Pure speculation. Listen i'm a massive Tyson fan, all i'm pointing out is bona fide undisputed truth, he never got up to win, and Holmes deserves nothing but repsect for getting up from that heavy kd to win.
