Fighters who never looked like being Great at first

    But turned out to be great. Erik Morales is one for me. i never thought he was going to be great at first. i thought he was too stiff and a bit slow

    JMM and PAC also come to mind. BHOP another

    Marvin Hagler spent much of his early career looking like he'd be another strong, intimidating but unsuccessful middleweight contender in the Bennie Briscoe mold. His career, of course, turned out somewhat differentely..

    Didn't quit become great but Prince Charles Williams. Quite the turn around career wise.

    lennox lewis looked awkward and gangly ! plus floyd mayweather the ist time i saw him " he looked as if he had zero power .

    dunno if you could count carl froch as great, but he became a hell of a lot better than i ever saw in him at the start

    really liking this thread. like tigeredge, the first thought to my mind was JMM. i'm sure ali of the jones fight was not pegged as an all time great
