So, you think Billy Conn, Quarry, Machen, Williams, Shavers, Archie Moore and Sam Langford beat Usyk?

    :rolleyes:o_O

You're taking Ron Lyle over Usyk?

Lots of weird choices in this thread considering champions TODAY like Usyk, Bivol and Canelo are all hall of famers themselves.

Ive never seen Usik fight but the way the sanctioning bodies are run , they could be champions. Usik says no to payong a sanctioning fee and they get a vacant title fight and easily thy could win.

Usyk is the champion. You've never seen Oleksandr Usyk fight. But you think Tami Mariello, Bob Pastor, Arturo Godoy, Henry Cooper, Renaldo Snipes, Roland La Starza and Don Cockell all beat him or become champ?

    Got it. :hang

Lots of bashing of today's top champions ... apparently by people who haven't even seen today's champions compete.

Well when I mean today I mean the last 10 years or so. Not particularly Usik's reign vut the last ten years or so. In sure they could beat Stiverne or Andy RUiz for example.

"Today" usually doesn't mean "a decade or more" ago, but whatever.

    "Today" tends to mean today.

There are a lot of very good hall of fame fighters competing right now at the top. Usyk, Canelo, Bivol, Crawford, etc.

IF guys could not beat the top guy in their weight class then, they likely ARE NOT beating the top guy in their weight class now. Especially at heavyweight.

Except that back then, in order to get a title shot, you had to beat ten top fighters, many of whom would have been world champions today too, and maybe even a hall of famer or two. Plenty of the guys back then were not world champions but are hall of famers like Montanez, Billy Petrolle, Luis FIrpo, Lloyd Marshall, Charley Burley, Herbert Hardwick, Holman Williams, Laslo Papp, Young Stribling, Sam Langford, Sam McVey, Joe Jeanette and others. Also, many were black and never got a title shot.

There was only one world champion in their era whenever today there are as many as 4 world champions. Imagine having to beat ten guys who could have been world champions in any other era, then a couple who were world champions, and maybe 3 or 4 hall of famers before getting a title shot, 50 fights and a lot of punishment into your career!

Different eras. Thats why, when seen in a fair way, we that understand this give the older fighters an edge.

Don Cockell isn't beating Usyk. Sorry.

Neither is Billy Conn and Tami Mauriello, Bob Pastor, etc.

So Usik is better than Joe Louis? Because Billy Conn almost beat him. And Conn is a Hall of Famer..

Usyk is miles better than Louis, especially against someone like Conn.

Anybody who thinks Oleksandr Usyk is beating prime Joe Louis needs to watch some more Joe Louis fights. I think Joe Louis is the GOAT but will not argue with someone who thinks Muhammad Ali beats Louis, or even making an argument for Lennox Lewis. To each his own opinion with those guys. But Oleksandr Usyk? As good as he is, and he is very good, but, sorry, I am not going there, or entertaining that claim, at all.
