Buster Douglas against Tyson is maybe the ultimate example.

    Conteh against Bogs?

Marion Wilson against Mecer. Clearly beat him, Wilson actually had a new trainer teaching him things above and beyond being a human punching bag.

Tough question. IMO, a personal favorite of mine, was Dokes against Holyfield. Sure, he lost against Evander, but, everyone knows his battle with drugs and he was inactive for a while because of it. The bout later became known as the Heavyweight Bout of The 1980's, due to it being so action packed. It was a true test for Holyfield, who had yet to fight a serious heavyweight since leaving the Cruiserweight division, and it redeemed Dokes of his demons and regrets, if for only a moment.

He never had another moment like that in boxing again. It was his last hurrah, even though he would fight on into the late 90's, getting almost beheaded by Ruddock and being vaporized in one round by Riddick Bowe. But for that night in 1989 against Holyfield, he put it all together.

    bernard hopkins against felix trinidad.
since then weve seen different aspects of his game stand out more and less so, but that night showed what bernard can do when he puts it all together. if jermain ran into that hopkins hed have been in serious trouble.

    This might seem strange, but...

    Eddie Mustafa against Marvin Johnson
Saad Muhammad in the Conteh rematch

I know they were both accomplished fighters outside of these fights (especially Saad) but I've always felt these were the only fights where they made full use of all their tools and talent.

Call me crazy, but Andrew Golota's performance against Chris Byrd, I think qualifies for this. We all thought he was essentially done in boxing, and whenever he did step up he either mentally broke down, resorted to fouling, or was blown away quick. Then, he pulls this great performance from out of his ass, and has a draw against Byrd, whom everybody cried bull**** over, believing he actually won!

We may remember him for low blowing Bowe in two fights, getting knocked out in one round by Lennox Lewis, and the like, but that fight with Byrd shows us, what a prepared, focused, no excuses, no bull****, Andrew Golota could do in the ring. Was an excellent fight for him.

Also, another good example, Golota-Ruiz! Golota was robbed, imo, so, two robberies in a row: Byrd & Ruiz! He was good on two nights.

I've heard some posters here say it was his best performance. Along with him only briefly if ever reaching his full potential, I figure it fits.

He was better against Ahumada and even Lopez, considering they were better fighters than Bogs. The former is clearly his best performance. The Schmidke fight he's very good and it could be argues this was peak Conteh but Rudi wasn't in the class of Ahumada and Lopez (neither was Bogs as I mentioned earlier).
