Can you imagine Duran being reluctant to finish off a stricken opponent?I remember Tyson fighting in the UK repeatedly shoving Referee John Coyle out of the way to get at his dinner,it took about 4 attempts before Coyle finally got through to Tyson that the fight was over.

Believe it or not, but Duran's biography stated that he actually did ask a ref later in his career to stop a fight.

If you watch the film. You see himholding Jack back with his arm, turning to the ref, and pleading with the ref to stop the fight. When the ref refuse, it gave Williams NO choice but to go on with the attack. You see that pause and that chat with the ref. You can even see the ref motion William to cont fighting.

Ali didn't want to keep knocking the hell out of Lyle and asked the referee to stop it. I think Holmes pleaded with the referee in the Leon Spinks fight.

    Takanori Gomi vs Nick Diaz.

Gomi was gassed so he appealed to the ref to stop the fight due to the nasty gash that Diaz had suffered above his eye. The ref allowed it to continue and Diaz proceeded to whoop Gomi's ass within the next minute, ultimately winning an action-packed bout.

i remember roger mayweather fighting a guy called joe rivera, probably about 20 years ago-mayweather had an easier time than expected and was landing hurtful punches against a fairly durable guy.during the fifth or sixth round he turned to the ref more than once to stop it(admittedly rivera didn't appear that hurt, just out of his depth)and was ignored, moments later roger put him down and stopped him-he must have felt the guy weakening.

Well, it was a nice joke, but doesn't really work considering it wasn't that late in his career. :D
