Lets have some examples of who pretended to be hurt in order to sucker their opponents. I will mention Dixie Kid, to get the obvious example out of the way.
Matt Saad Muhammad would try bait guys this way only to rally back, although alot of the time he was actually hurt (just not as bad as he would let on).
Yeah. I think he tried that against Holyfield twice in one round didn't he? I was unsuccessful in my search for a good vid, but found this somewhat unrelated lol-clip: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbN-mWON6Ug"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbN-mWON6Ug[/ame]
My favorite heavyweight example of feigning distress to steal a win in recent decades is Mike Weaver-Carl Williams. Watch how Hercules holds his left hand protectively upright by his face when he is in a genuinely serious crisis against Holmes, Coetzee, Bonecrusher and Dokes. Then, watch how he has his left lowered, cocked and loaded against "The Lie." Carl fell for it, and I knew what was about to happen from my armchair. That it was the very man who was prematurely robbed of his title by Joey Curtis amazed me, and it worked perfectly. Bonecrusher-Weaver I was Mike's very next bout, and James was mindfully cautious in taking him out. Smith admitted in the post fight interview that he was very wary of what Weaver did to Williams, but this time it was clear that Mike was truly in dire straits, and it was an appropriate stoppage. Four years hence, Hercules got up from another first round knockdown in a rematch to go the 12 round limit. Weaver was stopped twice in a single round, and went the distance in rematches with both opponents who halted him in that manner, something meriting great appreciation and respect. (Imagine Patterson taking Liston the championship limit in 1963 or 1964.) He went much farther than anybody originally expected, and Williams was one of the best knockouts of the 1980s.
Hopkins exaggerating the effects of a "low blow" by Calzaghe. I lost a lot of respect for Bernard that night and as of yet he still hasn't recovered it. Very disappointing. This is a tough "Philly" fighter?? Try and imagine Joe Frazier or Bennie Briscoe acting like that.
Nigel Benn did it to land a couple shots on Michael Watson. Watson took them though. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Luz4I_qrAww[/ame]

Vasquez done it in one of the Marquez bouts, turning away from Rafael as if he had been poked in the, but then rallying and clipping Rafa a few times after he jumped on him. Then again, he might have just been poked in the eye (the commentators thought he was playing possum though).
