Kid Galahad - dedicated his entire life to boxing, rarely has days off from the gym, lived like a monk, says he's never had a girlfriend.13 year career. Yet still failed at world level, never beat a past or current world champion ever, had the most embarrassing short paper title reign of 98 days in the history of boxing and will be forever remembered for the cherry pick go wrong brutal KO defeat to old shot Kiko. Hughie Fury - Similar story so far. All that hard work for little reward so far. (He still has time though)
I think Barry never having a girlfriend doesn't have much to do with his level of dedication. Interesting thread though, there's Kieran Smith who is an absolute workhorse away from the ring, he had a step up VS Williamson and was winning the fight but got kayoed and for now is back where he was before that fight.
remember reading Jazza Dickens saying he goes to bed at a crazy early time like 6pm or something. and gets up dead early. No luxuries in his room at all such as TV when he's in training camp. Quais Ashfaq is another, totally dedicated tries his hardest but isn't good enough, got spanked by a part- time boxer with a full time job who moved up in weight (Marc Leach)
What do you mean? Is it because he is a proud champion? 4ad3f864b74206eb244c5068dd30953b.jpg (1280×720) (pinimg.com)
Hagler in the 70s. Eubank in the 80s. It was an investment though. Though in Hagler’s case he had losses and could’ve lost faith.
We’re constantly told how Anthony Fowler lives the life, he’s stepped above area level twice and got put it on his arse both times.
Pretty much any Mexican BW not named Olivares, and all the lower weight fighters that give us great fights and get very little by way of payment in return !! . keep well.
Many Fighters around British Title level fit into this category. Henry Rhiney and Lloyd Christie were car mechanics. I remember Orpington Light Middle, Jimmy Cable, was European Champion and still working as a plasterer. He was featured in an article in The Guardian about the unlicenced circuit in the late 90's and said he was getting better money than for any of his Title fights.
