I'm asking this in the context of Wilder's loss to Fury.

Lennox Lewis came back very well twice, but he didn't took the beatings in either of those defeats - he was KO'd with a signle punch.

Wladimir Klitschko came back very well after his losses to Sanders and Brewster, but again, he didn't took prolonged beating in either of those fights. Sanders just bombed him out quickly. Brestwer battered him for 3 minutes in round 5, but before that Wladimir controlled the fight.

Wilder's loss to Fury wasn't anything like Lewis losses to McCall and Rahman or Wlad's losses to Sanders and Brewster. Deonaty got a tremendous beating for 7 rounds, he got hurt plenty of times and took a lot of punches. Even Joshua's loss to Ruiz can't be compared to Wilder's loss to Fury, since the beating that AJ took was much shorter - he hardly got hit until the third round and even though Ruiz dominated from knockdown in round 3 until the stoppage, he took a pause for the whole fifth round in which he didn't do much.

History shows us that when the fighter got a prolonged beating he will likely never be the same. Tyson after beatings he took from Douglas and Holyfeild, Curry after the beatings he tooks from Honeygan and Starling, Bowe after Golota fights, Jorge Luis Gonzalez after getting beaten up and knocked out by Riddick Bowe, Tyrell Biggs after Tyson fight, Margarito after the beating he took from Mosley and Pacquiao, Morore after fighting Duran, Chagaev after Klitschko fight and so on.

I think that even getting bruttaly KO'ed very quickly is better than taking a prolonged beating. John Ruiz came back well after brutal KO loss to Tua.

But my question is: how many fighters has returned to the ring about as good as they were before after taking a prolonged beating?

I was going to say morales -
He had been in wars with Barrera and Pac-Man, retired and got fat, came back won a world title and nearly beat chino with one eye.

    BUT

that morales wasn’t the same fighter, almost semi-shot. Testament to his greatness. Hard question

Charles came back and had an ATG career after losing to Lloyd Marshall and Jimmy Bivins is excruciatingly hard battles. In those 2 fights he was dropped at total of 11 times (although badly injured for the Marshall fight.) and he would come back to avenge both losses multiple times and beat the likes of Archie Moore, Joey Maxim, Joe Louis and Jersey Joe Walcott.
