Typically, when a fighter takes a beating - especially when that beating is his first loss - they are not the same. Why would they be? Everything that was certain to them now has a question mark after it. 'No-one can take my power' becomes 'no-one can take my power?'

I can't really think of a fighter left unaffected by a monumental beatdown loss but the blueprint for boxer to rebound from such a setback would be a highly-skilled one who has the skill and ring IQ to adjust, iron out the flaws and adopt a new style.

Wlad did this after the intervention of Manny. He was always more than just a big punch; he was a jigsaw puzzle with many pieces which needed putting together to reveal version 2.0. But despite that, he still fought with the mental scars of bad losses, he was super safe in his approach until his opponent was ready to go.

If all you have is a big punch and a big heart, I'm not sure that's enough to rebuild. Of course, I'm thinking of Wilder here.

yeah it’s a real hard question.
A fighter who is ko’d can put it down to luck, gassing or a mistake.

a beat down where your outmatched in every department appears to take most fighters soul.

I mean, it wasn't a ferocious beating, but Canelo took a lot of shots against Mayweather, and at times was getting tee-d off on, and turned into one of the top fighters.

Apparently Gene Tunney took quite a beating from Harry Greb in their first fight.

I think Archie Moore came back from bad beatings a few times.

Sometimes, the winner takes a prolonged beating.

    Timothy Bradley vs Ruslan Provodnikov

Tim said he was slurring his speech for quite a while after this fight but he recovered and had great fights afterwards.

Malignaggi after the beating he took from Cotto became champ in 2 weight classes and scored all of his signature wins.

Ali, specifically in the first Fraizer fight where he took on a lot of punishment yet went on to achieve greater things.

Andy Lee took a severe beating before the fight was stopped vs Chavez Jr. but went on to find success and his first world title shortly after.

Wilfredo Gomez took an absolute beating by Salvador Sanchez but when on to become a 3 weight world champion.

Carlos Quintana got a beating and quit vs Miguel Cotto but scored one of the biggest upsets in boxing at the time and won the WBO strap when he outboxed Paul Williams.

Cotto took a lot of beatings after the plaster fight with Margarito which was a monumental beating in itself. He took a beating from Clottey, Pacquaio and even Mayweather but found success after those fights.

These are all from the top of my head and there's loads more, but the most recent example is Joshua after the Ruiz fight..

Mike Tyson did come back well after Douglas, his chin was intact and he was in great shape and motivated before he went to jail. He declined technically without Rooney but he wasn't mentally broken until after prison.
Holyfield is the one that ruined him.

Marquez came back well after FMJ

Cotto came back well after more than one SEVERE beating.

Barrera took beatings vs Jones and pacquiao

Ohh that's a really good one!...

Max exposed some bad habits joe had(dropping his hand after a jab I think it was) and countered him repeatedly in return...then Louis took like 50 right hands before being put away

After all that he came back and fought like the most confident man in the world in the rematch.... for the one round it lasted
