Yeah Max administered a systematic beating to him and cracked him with a ton of clean and heavy right hands until he simply could take no more. But he obviously went on have an amazing run after that including gaining his revenge in the rematch.

Not sure if anyone mentioned it but Barrera came back well after 2 tough fights with junior jones and then went on a 6 fight win streak after getting brutalized by pacquiao in their first encounter.

Canelo took more jabs to the face than @IsaL takes Mexican balls to the face:p

I think it was Forrest that beats the brakes off Sugar Shane

I think it's worth mentioning that Frank Bruno became world champion for the first time at age 34, with four KO losses under his belt, none of them pure one punch KO's, if perhaps arguably not "prolonged beatings" either.

Also worth mentioning that his title win in no small way depended on favourable match-up (McCall) compared to the guys he'd lost to in the past and that he lost again after taking another step up in class to defend his title against Tyson... but, still, I think it is still arguable that Bruno looked more or less at his best in the McCall fight, had maybe lost a little speed but was bigger & stronger than ever and looked more disciplined & measured than in his early career.

There's maybe a lesson for Wilder there: forget the Fury rematch, take a soft comeback fight, hope that a belt will become free at some point if e.g. Fury fights Joshua rather than a mandatory? but when I look at his age, his strengths & weaknesses, taken together it does look very close to the end of the road for him.

Hopefully. I've been impressed with Sam's new approach but we'll have to see if he can keep his discipline when he's under pressure.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Jerry Quarry coming back after 2 horrendous beatings from Joe Frazier. Either of those fights would have finished many other Boxers.
