This is a little off topic, but I'm reminded that it's said that when Ted Williams came to the baseball majors (Boston AL) and [EDIT: Bobby Doerr -- I had mis-remembered the question coming from a reporter] remarked 'wait till you see Jimmie Foxx hit', he was supposed to have said 'wait till Foxx see's me hit!'; but in later years he was so passionate about keeping the memory of great hitters alive, founded a museum to that effect, said that Ruth was the greatest, and that he (Williams) was happy ito be remembered along with the other elite hitters (and admitted being awed by Foxx's explosive and distant smashes).
The question was who said they'd beat ATG's of earlier era's. You said - "Yes he did, just like he said some arrogant things about McCall too but he was the one who was KOed cold by that same McCall." You've claimed he said it about ATG's from earlier era's. I don't care about McCall, everyone knows about that. I'm keen to see what he said about beating ATG's from earlier era's. Do you have proof or did you just make it up like a lot of other things?
I never said that he said something about ATGs but only against other fighters. Lennox could be cocky sometimes.
Ah! Schmeling had some pretty tasty ones in that ballpark as well. That generation was certainly raving about Dempsey. Louis said he'd beat Ali, but at least I don't think he said he'd do it 1-2 rounds. Ali was of course equally sure he'd beat Louis. He was very respectful about Marciano, though. My favourite is the one already mentioned, though, when Holmes just goes off the rails about how every main 70's fighter would beat Tyson. And you can see how the others, especially Frazier, aren't aboard at all. Have to give it to Larry, though. Takes some doing to say for the cameras, with a straight face, that Norton would beat late 80's Tyson. That would be a massacre, although a quick one.
Truly, Holmes is as pathetic as it gets. When they first mention Tyson in that conversation, Holmes says, “Who?” & in the Comments section on YouTube someone wrote, “Mike hit Larry so hard he can’t remember ever meeting him.”
A slight aside, but I remember seeing a clip of an interview Floyd Mayweather did with Larry King, who asked him which fighter from history he’d most like to have fought and he said Alexis Arguello, to which King replied, ‘Who?’
I don't think he'd blow wind up Holmes khyber to be honest Swag. He's up there with the greatest sub 190 fighters H2H but not Liston forward at heavyweight.
