I don't think anyone is beating Holmes in 1 round. If nothing else, Holmes was resilient, quick, and cagey.

In regards to looking down on older fighters, I think Oscar Bonavena said some pretty disrespectful things about Marciano after he took the time to train him and show him a few tricks. Didn't he say something to the effect of "what could I learn from that washed up has-been?" When asked if he'd use his strategies.

I recall Wilder claiming he surpassed Ali. Not sure exactly what he meant, but for his sake I hope he didn't mean in terms of accomplishments or skill. Just about the only thing he has over Ali is raw power and being (unintentionally) funnier due to the crazy things he says with a straight face.

 

That actually was the first thing that sprang to mind. I don't remember him saying it that openly, but I think I remember a panel discussion on classic boxing where Bert Sugar and Tommy were both there and Marciano came up and he said something like "I'm not sure any 185-pound fighter would even beat me, to be honest." Like, he wasn't saying he was great, just that at his size, it was difficult to picture for him.to lose to a Marciano or Dempsey in the 180's, something like that? I mean, if he just said it outright, I guess it wouldn't be a shock, considering he also told journalists he could teleport, toward the end.

 

Cruder? Hardly. Tyson threw lots of roundhouse swinging blows. Dempseys blows were fast, short, deadly and precise.

 

Yeah I don’t want to favor Morrison over Rocky but some of those brutal punches landing on a much smaller man would cause some damage
