can uderstand jones an hatton glass wear but toney not shop worn like othe two even at 40 he never relied on speed akarj or volume agressivness aka rh just throw back boxing wich has not left not prime but not gone
He got outboxed by Sam Peter (2nd time) and got a little rocked (albeit only momentarily) by Matthew Greer.
thats why i feel sorry for him, he fools himself into believing he is still great cause nobody can KO him but all you need to do is hear him speak to know he is far worse than the other 2.
I've been watching some Marco Antonio Barrera fights and it's sad he's still fighting. He should be sitting at home getting 5,000 a week royalty checks from the people in boxing just because of how awesome he is.
He should have remained a partner in GBP and started counting his Benjaminos after the Marquez fight (or the Pacman rematch at the absolute latest)...
I'm sure one of the hardcore Barrera-ites will come in here and try to drag me over the coals for dare mentioning something other than praise for Barrera but his bridge burning with certain promoters always seems to haunt him. From dissing Arum to GBP, He's certainly hurt his chances.
That's always confused me; all the ink on it to be found online (maybe my search efforts just aren't hard enough...) just mention that he switched promoters for his ill-advised comeback. He wasn't merely promoted by Oscar, though, IIRC - he was on the doorstep of being a full-fledged partner in the company along with Hopkins and Mosley, right? :huh That's what HBO always made it seem like and he was always suited up at ringside right alongside those guys. Why the hell would he walk away from something as lucrative as that? What were the terms of his split - is he on bad terms with Oscar now? Did he surrender his shares (did he even have any in the first place)? :huh:huh
How about Berto. He lost some of his family to a natural disaster:-(. I hope he gets another shot at a big fight...
Well, not that he isn't certainly deserving of sympathy, but that's probably not exactly in the intended spirit of the thread...Berto is just entering his prime...
If I remember correctly, He felt De La Hoya and GBP was behind his decision loss to JMM. It was in the same vein as "Bob Arum has a lot of friends in Las Vegas", insinuating that a promoter had screwed him out of a win. He took his last fight against Pacquaio, got let go (or chose not to re-up his contract) and found his way to Don King.
Yeah, Barrera caused his own damn problems at this point. GBP has been able to keep Bernard Hopkins happy, and he is someone who has burned through promoters like wild fire.
That's so weird that he'd have thought that...he had to know that GBP was fully aware of Barrera being a far bigger "brand" than Marquez (boxing diehards aside), especially among their darling Mexican-American demographic. As a one-man institution (like ODLH himself) and a business partner, you'd think if anything the screwjob would be going the other way. What an odd lack of trust. Maybe he and his three cohorts never really formed strong personal bonds as it appeared from their pubilc interactions. Of course, even a big Marco fan has to admit he's hardly perfect in terms of his mentality outside the ring...but paranoid lashing out like that and biting the hand that feeds really takes the cake.
