i dont remember the details, its from an interview steward did many years ago. but i do remember him saying that he worked on tommys power punching when turning pro and gave him some easy ko's in the beginning to build his confidence. im sure the interview is out there.

I don't disbelieve you read it. I just wonder how much Steward is to be trusted.

"DL: How did you transform Tommy Hearns into such a vicious puncher? He wasn’t a big puncher in the amateurs, was he? Also, do you agree with the boxing adage that punchers are born and not made?

ES: Nope, Tommy was not a big puncher in the amateurs. A lot of the power that a fighter generates has to do with the tightness of the hands at the end of the punch and turning your body weight into the punches. A lot of fighters only close their gloves 75% and they don’t close them tight enough. They say you can’t teach punching power, but I taught it. Roy Jones was in the same amateur class as Michael Moorer and was very surprised that I took Michael who was knocked out in his last amateur fight and turned him into a world champion after nine months. I turned Moorer into a vicious knockout puncher."

that is from an interview by darrel la montre, who i give credit to. its not the interview i remember, but he kinda makes reference to the same thing.

Margarito is the correct answer. He developed his punching power by putting something inside his gloves.

You can put cement in your gloves or take some designer roids (Roidyfield). But I think the intention of this thread, was to identify fighters who legally became KO artists later on in their careers.
