Not because of great chins, but unbelievably difficult to get through guards?

Marlon Starling was never stopped. Knocked out with a after the bell shot from hell, but beyond that? Faced some massive punchers, including a peak Donald Curry twice.

    Ronald Wright as well.

Who else was just a impossible to break through defensive fighter?

Two that spring to mind in their primes:

    Oliver McCall
    Muhammad Ali

Well, if tagged in the right spot at the right time, ANYONE can get KTFO!! But dudes like "Hagler & Toney" are pretty solid..... That also includes the late Rocco Marciano, too....

Nicolino Locches' lone stoppage loss in 136 fights was due to cuts. He was simply impossible to hit with a clean shot. Great ability to roll with punches when hit too.

During those years in the 60's early 70's when Locche was in his prime there were three other champs at that weight who were never knocked out much due to their defensive capabilities as well as their toughness.

Ken Buchanan was never legitimately knocked out, as a right hand to the testicles after the bell has never been a legitimate punch, and his career stretched over more than 15 years.
Carlos Ortiz only failed to go the distance once and that was against Buchanan in what proved io be his last fight when he surrendered on his stool between rounds.
Speedster Ismael Laguna who fought Ortiz thrice went through his career without ever being stopped being too fast for anyone to nail him solidly.

So you have four guys roughly at the same weight and same era who between them had about 350 bouts without any real ko loss. Primarily because of their defesive prowess.
Proof that the best chin is one that seldom gets hit.

Of recent vintage, Tua, Vitali, and McCall will never be knocked out or even down for that matter.

i don't know about naz. he never fought any really great punchers and kevin kelly (is well as others) had him in trouble a few times

i am of the belief that MAB let him last the distance because he wanted to humiliate him

Joe Grimm made his entire career out of trying to avoid being knocked out.
