Paul Andrews flew under the radar, had all the charisma of Zora Folley. Would need Red Bull to be laconic, but punched like a mule, and every gym rat in N.Y. knew it. He begged Cus D'Amato to spar with Floyd Patterson. Cus wanted no part of him.

Andrews was one more case of potential being done-in by booze.

Thanks for the insight. I always wondered what exactly happened to him.

I guess I would nominate Bob Satterfield for this list. He was all over the place during his career. Poor training habits and a glass jaw undercut skill and a big punch.

Haven't read this thread yet so not sure if he's been mentioned but my favorite enigma of the 90s was Ray Mercer. All the talent in the world and the makings of a champion in terms of power, chin, and some underrated explosive speed, but never could quite win the big one, and poor training habits hurt him.

When last I saw Andrews a few years ago, OF, he was training fighters in Los Angeles. Knows he blew it back-in-the-day. The look in his eye, talking about it, said volumes.

I think history will be kind to calzaghe, and rank him the number one 168er of all time.

If Calzaghe had fought some of the bigger names earlier in his career,he would n't have retired unbeaten, but would still have had a good innings. Definitely one of the best 168 lb boxers ever.

I knew you rated Andrews highly. Seems to be a real skilled boxer-puncher, but there is not too much out there on him.

Hatton would be a decent example despite his 2 high profile victories at 140.

I am happy to hear he pulled it together at least for his personal life.
