Name some fighters who had incredible punching power but were not physically imposing as far as strength

Yeah Hearns actually came to mind as well for me a very hard puncher but didn't seem to impose much strength as he did his speed and punching power
another I could say is Julian Jackson he had tremendous punching power but when I look at his fights I never really seen him impose his strength and he didn't seem comfortable against guys who could take away his punching room

I wouldn't call him a great puncher as a pro (although in the amateurs he was a ****ing beast) but Mark Breland with his preying mantis physique still scored some impressive stoppages.

Jimmy Wilde and Lew Jenkins probably couldn't lift 5 pounds above their head but were terrific punchers.

Hearns is a great shout. Great post. This kind of fighter is much more rare than the fighters who are physically strong but not too powerful as punchers. A lot of the time if you get a guy who has great power in punching terms he is a physically strong guy too.

I don't think Carbajal counts but it's interesting how he was able to hit so hard with that composed style of channeling his shots even when Gonzalez took on the role of aggressor because of his strength.

there was a heavyweight called rodney ray a few years back looked like a bean stalk, couldnt back up a bike. yet when he had some confidence and some distance his right cross obliterated some people, rossy got stunned, now mma fighter phillipou was hit so hard that his right leg slipped like he was heel kicking an invisible man. ref said it was a slip....and washed his mouthguard and dried the middle of the canvas. james clancy was a poor doughboy fighter but unbeaten. got crunched by a rodney ray right left combination. ending the fight

but the little strength that he had was debilitating, every shot that he caught with his shoulder almost blew him away.

:thinkdon't think he was strong but his pressure, size and power gave this illusion that he was strong.

    good call

I was never sure if he was physically strong or not, but Little Red Lopez might fit the bill. Tall and lanky and a deadly puncher, he never really resorted to strength during a fight. He may have been a guy that was strong but never choose to use it. But I thought he was outmuscled from time to time.

donald curry. especially in the early years with his high guard and lock up in the clinch. when he went up to 154 and was trying to counter on the inside. he was good but never seemed to really be able to back his man up.

david bey. big guy with a heavy overhand right and a solid left hook. with a massive pair of shoulders. never seemed to be able to really forc his strength over people.

wayne alexander. wild swinging, low guard, planted feet. more of a counterpuncher with his odd style with the off beat shots. big big big hitter relativly weak physically.

scrap iron ryan. for obvious reasons
